The Maple Batalia Memorial Award & Bursary (1992-2011)
The House of Kiran (in assoc. with The Batalia Family) presents: The Maple Batalia Memorial Award
The Maple Batalia Memorial Award is an award and bursary which will be awarded to a young woman of South Asian descent who is passionate and dedicated to pursuing a career in the field of the performing arts and/or modeling.
Applicants must meet the following criteria for eligibility:
- Applicant must be a female of South Asian descent between the ages of 16-21. Applicant must be a legal resident of Canada.
- Applicant must demonstrate passion and dedication for pursuing a career in the performing arts (including but not limited to acting, singing, dancing, modeling).
- Applicant must submit a 5-7 page essay describing why they deserve this award. All relevant contact information must be supplied on the document. (Email address, phone #, mailing address).
- Applicant must submit a head shot, demo reel and/or portfolio of prior work.
- Applicant must submit support materials of their involvement within their community through their chosen mediums. This may include newspaper articles, interviews and/or other media, etc.
- Applicant must submit three letters of support from previous employers, teachers, acting/modeling coaches and/or educators as to why they are deserving of the award & bursary.
- Applicant must provide written proof of their application and/or enrollment in a program of their selected area of study.
- All documents and support materials (head shots, portfolios, support/media, essays, etc) must be submitted electronically (via email, scanned documentation, youtube/yousendit).

The Award:
The recipient of The Maple Batalia Memorial Award will be awarded a bursary designated towards further studies and/or professional instruction in the field of the performing arts and/or modeling. Recipient must provide proof of their application to such related programs of study. Funds will be released upon confirmation and proof of enrollment/registration in relevant program of study.
The recipient of the award will also have the opportunity to meet with a top acting and/or modeling agency in Vancouver or Toronto (depending on their closest city of residence).
The recipient of The Maple Batalia Memorial Award will be chosen upon careful consideration by the House of Kiran & The Batalia Family.
Fundraising Goal for 2012: $20, 000 (in honor of Maple's 20th Birthday). With each passing year, we hope to increase this goal by $1000. Maple was passionate about her art and craft. To continue her legacy, we must come together as a community. Further details on fundraising to follow.
Selection: Recipient will be notified by phone, email and/or written confirmation prior to September 28th, 2012. Award will be presented on September, 28th, 2012.
This award has been created to show love, honor, guidance, support and respect to young South Asian women who are passionate about the very things Maple was. It's time for us to come together as a community to nurture our young artists and talent. This can only happen with the collective support of our community. RIP Maple. Gone, but never forgotten!
